The Beach Day Socks Pattern

Feeling summery? Then these are the socks for you.

Whilst summer may not be the traditional season for sock knitting, or sock wearing, this beach inspired pair could be a your next cast on.

Featuring cables and lace panels, the Beach Day Socks are a satisfying knit that work perfectly with a sparkly sock yarn.

The Beach Day socks give you a little bit of everything. They have a toe-up construction and feature both cables and a lace motif. Some concentration is required when knitting them, but it’s worth it for the result!

There are three sizes available to fit different foot circumferences, and you can customise the length of the sock as well as how tall you would like the leg to be.

They have a short row heel, so there’s no stitches to pick up unlike a heel flap & gusset construction.

I wanted to make the most of the sparkles in the Eden Cottage Silverdale yarn, but you can work with any 4ply sock yarn for this pattern. The moss stitch sections provide a nice texture and represent a sandy beach. With the parasols at the back and the cabled ‘waves’, the beach theme is complete.

Pattern Techniques

I have collated some helpful links for some of the techniques used in this pattern:

  • Judy’s Magic Cast-On: Nimble Needles has a helpful tutorial on how to set up this cast-on. This sort of cast on allows you to maintain the live stitches, giving you a seamless toe.
  • Making double stitches on short rows: Tin Can Knits shows you how to make double stitches on both sides of your knit.
  • Knitting cables: My tutorial covering how to knit cables step-by-step.
  • Jeny’s Stretchy Bind Off: Again Nimble Needles show how to cast-off with this stretchy method; essential for making sure you can get your sock on your foot.
